“This may be” è una ricerca sull’uso di app e software di object-recognition che riflette sul funzionamento dell’algoritmo che vi è alla base, per poi analizzare le conseguenze e gli scenari che ne scaturiscono. L’artista osserva il funzionamento di tali app in relazione ad alcuni degli oggetti del Museo. Con una video installazione tra ironia e assurdità, “This may be” pone domande critiche su quali siano gli impatti di tali tecnologie all’interno di contesti museali, dove vengono spesso impiegate come strumenti per la comprensione e l’informazione. In che modo vengono programmate le app di riconoscimento degli oggetti? È possibile ritrovare biases anche in un contesto museale? La videoinstallazione che ironicamente mostra l’oggetto del museo riconosciuto accanto a una rappresentazione fotografica del suo risultato, stimola su come instaurare un rapporto più critico con l’intelligenza artificiale, sempre più invasiva e presente in ogni contesto.

“This may be” is a research started in 2021 about the use of object-recognition apps and software that reflects on the functioning of the algorithm behind it, and then analyzes the consequences and scenarios that arise.

In 2021, the artist observes the functioning of these apps in relation to some of the artefacts in the Museum.

Through a video installation between irony and absurdity, “This may be” asks critical questions about the impacts of such technologies within museum contexts, where they are often used as tools for understanding and information.

How are object recognition apps programmed? Is it possible to find biases even in a museum context?

The video installation, that ironically shows the recognized museum object next to a photo- graphic representation of its result, stimulates on how to have a more critical approach with artificial intelligence. The site-specific version of the project this may be has been realized in 2021 for the exhibition “It takes a thousand voices to tell a sigle story” curated by Mixta at Castello d’Albertis in Genoa, Italy
